Baseball America announced their All-Stars for each level of the minor leagues, and with a number of Mets prospects having strong seasons, five Mets minor leagues would be named All-Stars.

AAA

Las Vegas 51s center fielder Brandon Nimmo was named to Baseball America’s AAA All-Star.  The Mets 2011 first round pick had a breakout season hitting .352/.423/.541 with 25 doubles, eight triples, 11 homers, and 61 RBI.  His batting average was the second highest in the Pacific Coast League, and his OBP was the highest.  After having a couple cups of coffee with the Mets this season, he was among the September call-ups.

High Class A

St. Lucie Mets catcher Tomas Nido was named to Baseball America’s High Class A All-Star team.  Like Nimmo, the Mets 2012 eighth round draft pick had a breakout season with him hitting .320/.357/.459 with 23 doubles, two triples, seven homers and 46 RBI.  Each of these were a career high for him, and his batting average was the highest in the Florida State League. Here you can read a recent interview we did with him.

Short Season

Peter Alonso was named to Baseball America’s Short Season All-Star team.  This year’s second round pick showed the ability to hit for power hitting .321/.382/.587 with 12 doubles, one triple, five homers and 21 RBI.  He didn’t have enough at bats to qualify for the batting title, but if he did he would have been fourth in hitting, seventh in OBP, and first in slugging.  Alonso’s season would be cut short when he broke his finger sliding into second base.

Alonso would be joined on the team by teammate Harol Gonzalez.  In thirteen starts and one relief appearance, Gonzalez was 7-3 with a 2.01 ERA, 1.012 WHIP, and a 9.3 K/9.  Gonzalez led the New York Penn League in ERA and strikeouts (88).  He was also second in innings pitched (85.0) and third in wins.

Rookie

Kingsport Mets starter Thomas Szapucki was named to Baseball America’s Rookie League All-Star team.  The Mets 2015 fifth round pick was 2-1 with a 0.62 ERA, 0.862 WHIP, and a 14.6 K/9 in five starts.  His dominance at the level earned him a call-up to Brooklyn where he would go 2-2 with a 2.35 ERA, 0.913 WHIP, and a 15.3 K/9 in four starts.
