On Tuesday, baseball Prospectus released its Top 101 prospect list ahead of the 2024 season, and the Mets have five prospects across the rankings.

Four of the team’s recent top prospects—Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, Luisangel Acuña, Ryan Clifford—appear, and one welcomed surprise in Christian Scott made his debut on the Top 101. These were the team’s Top 5 prospects when it released its Mets-specific prospects list in December.

Here are the Mets’ rankings in the Top 101:

Williams is regarded by BP as the team’s best overall prospect, largely behind his ability to hit for average and power, his plate discipline, and defensive versatility. Gilbert, they say, has a lot of similar traits as Williams. “He doesn’t make quite as much contact, and his swing can get out of control at times,” the BP staff said, “but his bat-to-ball and overall approach should be good enough. Clifford and Acuña both have concerns with their contact profiles, but the analysts acknowledge their upside if everything comes together.

Scott was a massive riser in the Mets’ system last season, and in BP’s eyes, he is their top pitching prospect. His fastball is his best pitch, and Jarrett Seidler from BP has been all over Scott’s progression and underlying metrics.

Marco Vargas, who the Mets got in the David Robertson deal, was a prospect who just missed the Top 101, with the site noting that he has “shown exceptionally strong contact markers along with pretty good plate discipline at the complex levels.” BP also named Jeremy Rodriguez as a candidate for their 2025 Top 101. Of Rodriguez, who the team got in the Tommy Pham deal, BP said “his bat-to-ball and swing decisions were years and years ahead of his age cohort” and that as the 17-year-old grows into his frame, he could project to be a power hitter in the future.
