The Binghamton Rumble Ponies have announced their 2023 coaching staff. For the second straight season former Major Leauger Reid Brignac will be leading the way. His coaching staff for the season will be:

  • Reid Brignac, Manager
  • Mariano Duncan, Bench Coach
  • AJ Sager, Pitching Coach
  • Darin Everson, Hitting Coach
  • Jeremy Cologna, Development Coach
  • Austin Dayton, Athletic Trainer

Brignac has been a manager in the New York Mets system for three consecutive seasons with him getting his start as the St. Lucie manager in 2021. After the completion of the 2022 season, he was part of the coaching staff of the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League.

For the second straight season, he is joined on the bench by Duncan, who returns as the bench coach. This marks his fifth season as a coach in the Mets organization. Notably, Brignac and Duncan saw Francisco Álvarez, Brett Baty, Jose Butto, Nate Fisher, and Bryce Montes de Oca begin the season in Double-A and make their Major League debuts during the 2022 season.

Sager has been promoted from being the Brooklyn Cyclones pitching coach to now being the Rumble Ponies pitching coach. Under his direction, Brooklyn had the second best staff ERA while leading the South Atlantic League in WHIP as the Cyclones qualified for the playoffs.

Everson joins the Mets organization after serving as the Colorado Rockies hitting coordinator for the past five seasons. He also served as a minor league hitting coach and Double-A manager during his nine years with the Rockies organization. Prior to the Rockies, he worked in the Miami Marlins and Baltimore Orioles organizations.

Cologna spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons as a volunteer assistant for Missouri State University. His responsibilities included being a catching and first base coach as well as helping with offensive development and game planning.

This season, the Rumble Ponies will look to improve on their last place South Atlantic League finish. However, when you look at the goals of the minors being developing talent, we can only hope the 2023 season will be every bit as successful as the 2022 season.
