Right-hander Brandon Sproat was impressive for the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones on Thursday in 5 2/3 innings of work. He allowed only one run that actually raised his ERA from 0.92 to 1.07.

Triple-A

Syracuse Mets (19-14) 9, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (12-20) 2
BOX SCORE

Syracuse had a great offensive game, with eight of nine hitters reaching base. Mark Vientos and Ben Gamel continue anchoring this Syracuse offense, and new addition Mike Brosseau went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

Luisangel Acuña and Luke Ritter had the day off.

  • RHP Mike Vasil (9.12) 4 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR allowed (52 of 85 pitches for strikes)
  • LHP Danny Young (1.08) 1/3 IP, BB
  • LHP Tyler Jay (1.53) 2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 3 K, 1 HR allowed
  • RHP Yacksel Rios (2.30) 1 IP, K
  • RHP Cole Sulser (4.00)  1 IP, 1 H, BB, 2 K

Mike Vasil had another uneven outing, despite his only run being on a solo home run. Vasil struggled with his control, limiting him to 4 2/3 innings pitched but lowering his ERA. The bullpen had a great game, only allowing two hits and a run on a solo home run.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (15-12) 5, Portland Sea Dogs (16-11) 3
BOX SCORE

The Rumble Ponies scored two runs on bases-loaded walks, and JT Schwartz stole another base, possibly adding another facet to his game. However, the Rumble Ponies were stifled early on by Sea Dogs starter Angel Bastardo, who struck out 10 in five innings of work.

Alex Ramirez, cooling down after his hot start did get an outfield assist, throwing Red Sox prospect Kyle Teel out at home.

Cameron Foster struggled with his control but limited to Sea Dogs to one run. Junior Santos came out in a non-save situation and allowed two runs, making the game much closer than it was.

High-A

Rome Braves (15-12) 1, Brooklyn Cyclones (16-13) 0
BOX SCORE

The Cyclones had two hits and three walks on the day, so offense wasn’t in the cards. Left fielder Omar De Los Santos has the dubious honor of stealing two bases, one after he reached on a force out and another after he reached base on a catchers interference.

Brandon Sproat had another great start for the Cyclones, almost mirroring his last start. Sproat did allow one run, and that would be the game-deciding run. Justin Lawson has continued his domination on the season, allowing one earned run while striking out 15 batters in 15 1/3 innings.

Low-A

St. Lucie Mets (12-17) 3, Bradenton Marauders (11-18) 8
BOX SCORE

St. Lucie’s offense would not be enough, with the pitching side of the ball having an off day. Colin Houck is 1 for his last 25 with 15 strikeouts.

Marco Vargas, in his first appearance since April 28th, went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks. Ronald Hernandez had the day off.

  • RHP Kade Morris (2.61) 5 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, BB, 9 K, 3 HR allowed (55 of 81 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Jawilme Ramirez (2.30) 1 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, BB
  • LHP Franklin Gomez (2.92) 2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K, 1 HR allowed

Kade Morris was hit hard on the day, giving up three home runs despite striking out nine batters. Franklin Gomez came out for the last two innings and allowed one run, also on a home run while striking out three batters.

Florida Coast League

FCL Mets (2-2) 4, FCL Cardinals (3-2) 7
BOX SCORE

The FCL Mets put some runs across the board, but no player other than the scorching-hot Simon Juan had more than one hit.

Everyone in the FCL Mets’ pitching staff struggled on the day except Brayhans Barreto, who pitched a clean two innings with three strikeouts.
