As reported by MMN‘s own Michael Mayer, the New York Mets have promoted third base prospect Brett Baty and right-handed pitching prospect Jose Butto to Triple-A Syracuse. Baty and Butto were both ranked by MMN as top 10 prospects in the Mets farm system as the season began.

Baty, 22, was the Mets first round pick (12th overall) in the 2019 draft. MLB Pipeline currently has Baty rated as the 18th overall prospect in the game, and the third best third base prospect.

Through 89 games with Double-A Binghamton, Baty has hit .312/.406/.544 with 22 doubles, 19 homers, and 59 RBI. He has a 155 wRC+ on the season, which is a vast improvement over the 118 he had in 40 games in Double-A at the end of last season.

Baty has a career high 19 homers and tied a career high with 22 doubles. Much of this is after Baty turned his season around after a rough first two months of the season. At that point, Baty began driving and lifting the ball more. Since June 1, Baty has hit .351/.442/.630 with 16 of his 19 homers on the season.

Much like last year, the Mets are put in a position to time share with Baty and Mark Vientos. With respect to Vientos, he has not played third since July 13 making the time share much easier than last season.

As noted, like Baty, Butto is also being promoted to Triple-A Syracuse. Through 18 starts and two relief appearances, Butto is 6-5 with a 4.00 ERA, 1.310 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9, and a 10.5 K/9.

Butto’s best month of the season came in July. In five starts, he was 2-0 with a 2.86 ERA, 1.024 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9, and a 10.5 K/9 while averaging over five innings per start.

Looking at the top 10 at the start of the season, six of the top 10 prospects are now in Triple-A with Francisco Alvarez and Baty leading the way. This shows how well the Mets prospects are developing and just how soon they may be ready to reach and contribute at the Major League level.
