Brigham, McFarland, Yacabonis Cut From Camp

With spring training winding down and rosters beginning to take shape, prior to their final game of spring 2023 against the Marlins on Sunday, the New York Mets made a few more roster transactions.

Right-handed pitcher Jeff Brigham was optioned to Triple-A Syracuase. Left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland and right-handed pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis were reassigned to minor league camp.

Jeff Brigham, RHP:

This spring Brigham was 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA. He had 12 strikeouts over 8.2 innings pitched and had a WHIP of 1.04.

Brigham allowed just three earned runs on five hits and walked four.

Brigham was obtained by the Mets this offseason in a trade with the Miami Marlins. Former Mets prospects Jake Mangum and Franklin Sanchez were sent to the Marlins for Bringham and Elieser Hernández.

Per Sunday’s roster moves, he will be heading to Syracause this week to open the season at the Triple-A level. Brigham has two minor league options remaining.

T.J. McFarland, LHP:

McFarland this spring was 0-0 with a 5.40 ERA. Over 10 innings pitched he struck out nine and a had a WHIP of 1.50.

He allowed six earned runs on thirteen hits and walked two

McFarland, 33, was signed to a minor league deal by the Mets this offseason. Last season, he made 28 appearances for the St. Louis Cardinals not registering a decision with a 6.61 ERA, 1.622 WHIP, 3.0 BB/9, and a 4.4 K/9.

Jimmy Yacabonis, RHP:

Yacabonis was 0-0 in spring 2023 with a 3.38 ERA. Over 8.0 innings pitched he struck out 10 and had a WHIP of 1.13.

Yacabonis gave up three earned runs on five hits this spring and walked four.

Yacabonis, 31, was signed to a minor league deal this offseason. In 2022, he made 14 appearances between the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays going 1-1 with an 8.36 ERA, 2.143 WHIP, 6.4 BB/9, and a 13.5 K/9.
