Quinn Brodey (2017) and Blake Tiberi (2016) were a pair of Mets third round draft picks the organization had high hopes for offensively. For differing reasons, including the lower levels of the minors not being conducive to left-handed hitters to thrive, we have yet to see Brodey and Tiberi live up to their potential. So far, the 2019 season has been a different story for the St. Lucie Mets teammates.

So far in eight games this season, Brodey is hitting .387/.417/.484 with three doubles and eight RBI. In seven games this season, Tiberi is hitting .417/.500/.500 with two doubles and an RBI. When you have two bats like that in the lineup, you have two difference makers who are going to win you some games. That was the case for St. Lucie yesterday in their 8-6 win over the Tampa Tarpons.

In a game started by Deivi Garcia, a pitcher who has been rated by MLB Pipeline as the Yankees fourth best prospect, both Brodey and Tiberi would have big days.

Notably, Tiberi would get a fifth inning rally started with a lead-off single. After being sacrificed to second, he would come home to score St. Lucie’s third run of the game off a Brodey two out RBI single. The two would also take part in the team’s four run seventh inning rally. In that inning, Tiberi would get the second hit of the inning, and Brodey would deliver another RBI single. Both players would score in that inning.

For his part, Tiberi did his job as the lead-off hitter setting up two rallies. On the day, he was 2-for-5 with two runs and a strikeout. As the clean-up hitter, Brodey did his part as well driving in two runs and scoring another. He would also display some power hitting an opposite field double in the second inning:

On the day, Brodey was 3-for-5 with a run, double, two RBI, and a walk. The tandem of Tiberi and Brodey were the only two St. Lucie players who had multiple hits, and they accounted for five of St. Lucie’s 12 hits. This is exactly the type of game and impact the Mets had hoped both players would have when they drafted them. Hopefully, this is a sign both players are on the precipice of a breakout season.
