The New York Mets have already announced they had hired Ed Blankmeyer as the replacement for Edgardo Alfonzo to help lead the Brooklyn Cyclones to their second outright New York-Penn League title. Joining Blankmeyer in his inaugural season as a professional manager will be:

Bench Coach Benny Distefano
Pitching Coach Josh Towers
Hitting Coach Rafael Fernandez
Athletic Trainer Anthony Oliveri
Performance Coach Wyatt Briggs

This is an experienced coaching staff with years of prior experience in the Mets farm system.

Distefano was previously the Cyclones hitting coach in 2010 and 2014. He served the last two seasons as Tony DeFrancesco‘s bench coach in Triple-A. He returns to Brooklyn to reprise that role

Towers was the pitching coach for the 2013 GCL Mets, and last year, he was the pitching coach for the Columbia Fireflies. With Columbia, he notably helped Thomas Szapucki come back from Tommy John surgery, and he also helped develop Simeon Woods Richardson, who went from a 2018 second round pick to a top 100 prospect.

Fernandez was previously the hitting coach for the DSL and GCL Mets, and last year, he was a member of the 2019 Mets coaching staff. When he was the hitting coach of the 2018 GCL Mets, the team lead the Gulf Coast in runs scored, hits, doubles, RBI, total bases, and OBP while finishing second in OPS.
