The Brooklyn Cyclones, who open up their season on Monday, released their preliminary roster today. Let’s take a look:

Right off the bat, that double-play combination presents the most intriguing two players on this Cyclones team: Gavin Cecchini and L.J. Mazzilli. Mazzilli is the highest drafted player from the 2013 draft that is on the current roster, and he teams up with Cecchini, who is the highest drafted player to ever don a Cyclones uniform.
Looking around, as the Cyclones mentioned, there’s a nice mix of old and new names. Tomas Nido will make his way to the Cyclones and work with Colton Plaia, our 15th round pick, behind the plate. Akeel Morris is also a name to watch out for as he always packed electric stuff.
Notable omissions from the roster, right off the top of my head, are Vicente Lupo and Bradley Marquez. I was under the impression that Marquez was going to be patrolling CF for us and perhaps they’d jump Lupo up to Brooklyn, but it looks like that is not the case. 7th-rounder Matthew Oberste also noted to us that he was supposed to start in Brooklyn, but he is not on this roster.
It’s important to remember that this is the preliminary roster and not the permanent one. As more players are signed, you’ll see some names shifted around and an influx of some of the college players that the Mets drafted in the later rounds.

I am amazed that they have not given up on Concepcion yet. He must be in his 6th or 7th year in the organization.
I was really excited to see Lupo this year in Brooklyn. They must have saw some things in extended spring training that he needed to work on. Kind of a bummer. Hopefully he is at least in kingsport and tears it up for an early promotion!
I am really disappointed that Lupo isn’t going to play in Brooklyn. I was almost sure he would be there. This front office really believes in slow progress, though.
