Following a blowout victory on Saturday, Syracuse dropped the rubber game in their series against the Red Sox by a score of 8-1. Box Score

After exploding for 16 runs in the previous game, the Mets’ offense was lifeless for the most part on Sunday. They recorded just five hits as a team for the entire game. The team’s lone run of the game came in the sixth inning: Vientos led off the inning with a single to right field, which was then followed by a Jonathan Arauz double to put two men in scoring position. Mauricio would drive home one of those runners on a groundout to shortstop on the first pitch of his at-bat.

The Mets did have other opportunities to score in the game but ended up going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. They also hurt their own cause in the field by making three errors over the course of the game.

Butto struggled in his first start of the season, getting pulled from the game in the fourth inning after allowing seven total baserunners and two runs during his time in the game. He threw 68 pitches during his 3 2/3 innings of work, 39 of which were for strikes.

The bullpen was not much better for Syracuse, especially in the walk department, as Syracuse pitchers combined to walk nine batters over the course of the game. Walker, in particular, struggled with his control as he threw less than half of his 30 pitches for strikes, but none of his four runs allowed were earned due to two errors being made behind him (including one by Walker himself). Muckenhim was making his organizational debut in Sunday’s game.
