Las Vegas 9, Fresno 8

The Las Vegas 51s scored twice in the ninth inning today against visiting Fresno to force extra innings, winning in the 10th on Eric Campbell’s game-ending RBI single for a 9-8 victory.

Brandon Hicks went 2-for-3 with four RBIs for Las Vegas, knocking a two-out, two-run double in the ninth inning to force extra innings. Hicks and Campbell combined for five hits and five RBI in this exciting win.

Jacob deGrom, the game’s starter, was sharp until the sixth inning where he was rocked as he pitched to the first four batters before exiting. Fresno would end up dropping a six spot in that inning with two runs coming off John Church as well.

It was the sixth Las Vegas victory in a row, giving the 51s (75-57) a two-game lead against Sacramento in the Pacific Southern Division standings with less than two weeks to play. The 51s’ magic number to win the division is 10 — each Las Vegas win or Sacramento loss lowers the number by one.
