On the Bleacher Report yesterday, Mike Rosenbaum posted a win – win prospect packages for top MLB trade targets on the market. One of his predictions included the Mets and the Phillies. In his prediction he said that the Phillies could trade Jimmy Rollins to the Mets in exchange for Cesar Puello.
He does note that the 35-year old Rollins would not be a long term option for the Mets but would be a better option than Ruben Tejada at shortstop. Rollins is set to earn $11 million for 2014, and has a vesting option written into the contract for 2015. I am not sure giving up a top prospect for a player that is on the tail end of this career would be a great move. Also, what would it take for the Mets to resign him for the 2015 season, and would it be worth the money. Don’t get me wrong Rollins is a great short stop, but unless the Phillies eat most of the contract, I do not see that the deal is worth it.
Last season in 600 at bats, he had only six home runs and 39 RBI’s while batting .252/.318/.348, but he would be an upgrade to Tejada, would rather keep the light hitting short stop around, and see what Puello would do in a full season at AAA.

That would be an awful trade for a player who is in decline, also just image Puello hitting in that stadium in philly he could hit 25 to 30 homers per yr.
LOL How, in any way shape or form, did a “Puello for Rollins” deal make sense? Even not being as high on Puello as some people (which can change if he’s still the same player next season) no way do you trade him for a washed up SS.
Our first home grown power hitting five tool outfield prospect in years for a once great
past his prime end of his career SS, NO WAY! He will be the every day RF in 2015 or
sooner!!
I totally agree and feel that Puello should be untouchable on any deal.
Puello for Rollins? I’ll pass, but more because I don’t want Rollins than not wanting to trade Puello.
Let’s calm down about Puello. He had a nice season last year…in AA…and he was using PEDs. He’s not a top 10 prospect by any standard and not even in the top 15 on a lot of lists (except those made by fans).
I have no issue dealing him in a variety of deals.
Untouchable? Come on. He had a nice season in AA while using PEDs but he’s hardly a top 10 prospect and certainly not untouchable.
Power hitting, five-tool? How the heck did you come to that conclusion? hahaha
I don’t agree that he’s untouchable, but he’s definitely a top 10 prospect. He has a fantastic combination of power and speed, and he had more than just a “nice” season in AA – He was one of the most dangerous and productive hitters in the league.
He always had the talent, and in 2013 he finally broke out. He ranked in BA’s top 100 prospects pre 2011, so it’s no like the season he had came completely out of nowhere.
There is also no evidence that he was using steroids during the 2013 season. His name surfaced in the biogenesis scandal PRIOR to the season, and the clinic closed in 2012. He has also never tested positive for PED’s in his career either.
