With the New York Mets making the Michael Wacha signing official, the team has designated Chris Mazza for assignment. With this move the roster still stands at 40 meaning another player will have to be designated for assignment once the Rick Porcello signing is official.

Mazza, 30, was selected by the Mets in the minor league portion of the 2018 Rule 5 Draft. He would become the first Mets minor league Rule 5 pick to make it to the majors since Henry Owens debuted in 2006.

Mazza made nine appearances for the Mets, and he would earn his first career win on the final game of the regular season when Dominic Smith hit a walk-off homer in the 11th on the final game of the regular season.

In the majors, he was 1-1 with a 5.51 ERA, 1.592 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9, and a 6.1 K/9.

Mazza made 17 starts and one relief appearance between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse. Overall, he was 3-5 with a 3.61 ERA, 1.174 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9, and a 7.5 K/9. With his success on the mound, he would be named an International League All-Star.
