Conforto Launches First Home Run in Brooklyn

On Saturday, Mets 2014 1st-round pick Michael Conforto connected on his first professional home run of his career, a laser that sailed over the right center field fence. Conforto has been tearing up NY Penn League pitching since his debut on July 19th.

Additionally, Conforto has played some stellar defense in the outfield. Before hitting the home run in yesterday’s contest, Conforto gunned out a runner trying to score from second on a base hit to left field.

In 15 games, Conforto is producing at a .352/.446/.500 clip. He has drawn nine walks and struck out eight times. I think this gives people in the Mets organization a sense of relief. This is what they expected (and hoped for) out of the young Oregon State alumni in his first stint in professional ball. People around the organization and even around baseball titled him as the most polished college hitter in the draft. He sure is living up to that in Brooklyn.

If I had to guess, Conforto will see some time elsewhere in the minors before 2014 comes to a close. Look out Savannah.
