Syracuse Mets starter Corey Oswalt has been named the International League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 21, 2019.

This is the third time in his career Oswalt has been named a Pitcher of the Week. He was the New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week (7/21/14) and the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week (8/6/17).

During this past week, Oswalt made two starts picking up a win in each start. He would allow just one earned over 12.0 innings while walking none and striking out 12.

According to MLB Pipeline, the Indianapolis Indians lineup has four of the Pirates best prospects. Against a lineup which included Ke’Bryan Hayes (2), Kevin Kramer (5), Pablo Reyes (15), and Jason Martin (8), Oswalt allowed just one earned on five hits while walking none and striking out four.

According to MLB Pipeline, the Toledo roster has four of the top prospects in the Tigers farm system. Against a lineup including Danny Woodrow (19), Willi Castro (7), Jacob Robson (16), and Dustin Peterson (28), Oswalt allowed no earned runs over six innings while allowing just three hits, walking none, and striking out eight.

In total, Oswalt faced eight of the top prospects in the games, and he came out on top both times. This is a big reason why he was named the pitcher of the week.
