Mets relief prospect Corey Taylor has been chosen to play in the Arizona Fall League All-Star game. He will be playing on Team East which includes top prospects like the Cubs Eloy Jimenez, the Indians Bradley Zimmer and the Brewers Brett Phillips.
Taylor is 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and has one save in six games for the Scottsdale Scorpions. He’s allowed two earned runs in 8.1 innings on eight hits, one walk and seven strikeouts.
The right-hander was the St. Lucie Mets closer during the 2016 season with 20 saves and a 1.87 ERA. Taylor was taken by the Mets in the 7th round of the 2015 draft.
Gavin Cecchini is one of three players that can be added to the East roster via fan voting. Cecchini is hitting .258/.359/.419 with a home run and six runs batted in for the Scorpions.
The game is Saturday night at 8 pm ET and can be seen on MLB Network.
How hard does Taylor throw? Is he a projected middle reliever, set up man or closer? I thought he was a college senior that was drafted in the 7th round because he was a cheap sign. Is that still the organization’s view or does he project out higher now?
