Everywhere you look, there’s talent in the Cyclones’ lineup. Everywhere they go, they struggle to turn that talent into results.

That was evident once again on Saturday, when Brooklyn fell to the Hudson Valley Renegades by a score of 5-2 on Full House night at MCU Park.

The Cyclones began the eighth inning leading 2-1, but Adam Atkins allowed four runs in the top half, one of which scored on a triple from C Danny De La Calle.

Harol Gonzalez took his New York-Penn League leading 31 strikeouts to the mound, and added five more through 5.1 innings pitched. Gonzalez, who has historically limited his walk totals, allowed no free passes on Saturday. It was his first such outing this season.

The Renegades came into the day sporting a .222 batting average, and one .300 hitter in their lineup, yet they managed to squeak out the only run of the game through the first six innings. Leadoff batter DH Ryan Boldt came around to score in the first inning, but Gonzalez kept them quiet the rest of the way, save for the eight hits he scattered.

The Cyclones tied the score in the seventh, however. Mets second-round pick 1B Peter Alonso, making his professional debut, led off the seventh inning with a booming double to left-center for his first hit. 3B Blake Tiberi drove in his fellow corner infielder with a triple, and C Ali Sanchez brought home the go-ahead run with a single.

Even though the team lost their third straight game, it could have been considered a success if you looked at the Cyclones’ hit total. After picking up a single and nothing else on Friday, seven Brooklyn batters reached via a hit on Saturday.

Alejandro Castro relieved Gonzalez during the sixth inning, and escaped a bases loaded, one-out jam. 2016 seventh-round pick Austin McGeorge worked his fourth consecutive scoreless inning, to begin his professional career.

The Cyclones are back at it on Sunday, as they wrap up their series with Hudson Valley at a 1:00 PM start time. Merandy Gonzalez (2-0, 2.21) will get the ball
