Following the Brooklyn Cyclones’ 9-2 win over the Auburn Doubledays Wednesday night, Mets Minors learned that the New York Mets traded Brooklyn right-hander Erik Manoah to the Los Angeles Angels. It was later confirmed, via a team announcement, that the move was made to acquire RHP Fernando Salas.

Manoah became the fourth Cyclones player to be traded during their tenure with the team. RHP Dawrin Frias was the last to be dealt, when he became the player to be named later to complete an earlier trade for LHP Eric O’Flaherty on August 7, 2015. Similar to Manoah, the other two, RHP Gaither Bumgardner and OF Julio Concepcion, were also traded to Los Angeles, in 2015 and 2013, respectively.

Manoah, 20, was wrapping up his third season in the organization. He was originally selected by the Mets in the 13th round of the 2014 draft, and made his professional debut in the Gulf Coast League that season. Manoah was promoted to Kingsport (R) in 2015, where he went 1-4 with a 5.34 ERA in 13 games (nine starts) before earning a late-season spot start in Brooklyn (SS-A).

Manoah would pick up in 2016 where he left off, cracking the Cyclones’ Opening Day roster. He made his season debut on June 21 against the Tri-City Valley Cats, allowing three runs over five innings. After a rough start on July 6 that saw him give up nine earned runs, Manoah put together a streak of four starts allowing one run or less. In his next start, however, he set the Brooklyn record by allowing ten runs in the first inning. If Manoah had not served up those immense run totals, his earned run average would shrink from 5.37 to 2.81. He would finish his Cyclones season with a 5-5 record and 63 strikeouts in 62 innings.

Manoah was originally scheduled to start Brooklyn’s home finale on September 4. The Mets promoted RHPs Jordan Humphreys and Gregorix Estevez to Brooklyn from Kingsport, with Humphreys being a likely candidate to make the spot start.
