The Brooklyn Cyclones have been awarded the Larry MacPhail Award, which is given to the minor league team that has the best promotional efforts.  With the Cyclones innovative promotions and their leading the New York Penn League in attendance for a 17th straight season, they were a natural choice for the award.

The Cyclones continue to have a number of promotions that are popular with Mets fans, children, and New Yorkers.  There is the yearly Seinfeld night with an annual Seinfeld themed bobblehead and an opportunity to meet a cast member of a popular episode. This year was Jackie Chiles Night.  Additionally, there is the ever popular Nickelodeon themed night where the ream wears jerseys inspired by a particular show with this year’s show being Spongebob Square Pants.  Other popular promotions continued this year were Nathan’s 4th of July hot dog themed jerseys and fauxback Cyclones jerseys.

In addition to popular promotions, every day of the week was a different theme day.  The most notable where Thursdays when everyone gets to run the bases, Saturday fireworks shows, and Sunday catches on the field.

This accomplishment should not be overlooked as the Cyclones are just the second ever New York Penn League team to ever win this award.

On the award, Brooklyn Cyclones Vice President Steve Cohen said, “On behalf of the entire Brooklyn Cyclones organization, we would like to thank Minor League Baseball for this prestigious honor.  Our industry is filled with some of the most innovative and creative minds in the world, so to be singled out from the field of so many worthy nominees is truly humbling.”  (MiLB.com).
