The Mets announced via their twitter page that Dillon Gee was placed on the 15-Day DL with a strained right lat retroactive to May 11.

Gee was slated to start Thursday in the last of a four-game series against the Yankees. However, recently promoted Jacob deGrom will take Gee’s place instead.

The Mets Opening Day starter, Gee has a 2.73 ERA this season and a 3-1 record in eight starts.

DeGrom was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas Tuesday. He had a 2.58 ERA in seven starts in Vegas this year.

With this news, it means the Mets will have back to back rookie pitchers making their major league debut in their next two games. Rafael Montero is set to make his debut tonight against the Yankees. Adam Rubin tweeted that it will be the first time in franchise history that this has happened.

It also resolves the question of who would be cut to make room for Montero. Jose Valverdeand Kyle Farnsworth will stay put for now.

Lat injuries can be very tricky to heal, so no herky-jerky moves for Dillon.

Get well Dillon, and get back soon. We need you…
