Paul dePodesta, the Mets VP of Player Development and Scouting, went on Twitter last night at 6:30 to hold a twitter chat. He fielded numerous questions, some relating to the draft, some relating to current prospects, and even made a joke or two. Anytime Pauly-D mentions a prospect by name, you know they’re doing something right. Here are a few answers that caught my eye…
@marcshor .@marcshor the MLB draft is more about looking 4 yrs down the round. That said, we took 4 college OF’s in the top 10. #askdepo

— The four years down the line comment really relates to their tendency to take a massive amount of High Schoolers…
@metfan722 .@metfan722 tough to say! Leathersich already in AAA so he’s the closest as of now. #askdepo
— Paul DePodesta (@pdepo) June 20, 2013
— Yeah, Jack Leathersich getting some love!
@whutyearisit .@whutyearisit Way too early to tell. LJ Mazzilli is advanced but still a ways away. Wish the MLB draft were like the NFL.
— Paul DePodesta (@pdepo) June 20, 2013
— Mazzilli, our 4th rounder, was the highest draft pick to take the field with our Brooklyn team in 2013.
@PSLToFlushing .@psltoflushing surprised and excited! Seen him since high school. Hitter. Gamer. #askdepo — Paul DePodesta (@pdepo) June 20, 2013
— Yeah, we here at MMN think he’s talented too… In fact, King, Wilson, and Stuart lead a pretty strong crop of our outfielders chosen this year.
.@KnicksMemes if we took Shipley people would wonder why with Harvey, wheeler, niese, Montero, syndergaard… We go best available. #askdepo
— Paul DePodesta (@pdepo) June 20, 2013
— I like that he’s showing the same confidence in our RHP prospects that I am… should’ve dropped Fulmer’s name!
.@KnicksMemes not at all. It’s was the plan when we drafted him. Had a very good extended spring. #askdepo
— Paul DePodesta (@pdepo) June 20, 2013
–The “plan” makes its dreaded appearance again…
.@steudte absolutely! Would love to take more guys closer to the ML. Just haven’t been there with our pick the last few years. #askdepo
— Paul DePodesta (@pdepo) June 20, 2013
— DePo seems really confident in the Smith pick this year…and you know what, who isn’t?
