2015 Brooklyn Cyclones OF Desmond Lindsay and RHP Matt Blackham suffered injuries in Spring Training, although Lindsay is expected to resume all baseball activities shortly, while Blackham will be sidelined for three months.

Lindsay, 19, was the Mets’ second round pick in 2015. According to Field Coordinator Kevin Morgan via MiLB.com, Lindsay had suffered from a calf issue during Spring Training. Additionally, he was hit in the head with a pitch two days in a row during games. The article also states that the staff is taking all precautions to get him back to one hundred percent. In 114 at-bats between the GCL Mets and the Cyclones, Lindsay hit .263 with one home run and 13 runs batted in. He is slated to begin the season in Extended Spring Training, before heading to Columbia (A).

Blackham, 23, suffered a fracture of the olecranon in the right elbow that will require surgery and force him to miss the start of the season, according to his Instagram page. The 2014 29th round pick from Middle Tennessee State spent all of last season with the Cyclones, where he went 2-2 with a 3.82 ERA over three starts. His best outings included two seven-inning shutout efforts, on June 22 and July 4. Blackham was likely headed for Columbia for the beginning of the season, but he will now rehab in Florida until the injury heals.

Blackham had his 2015 season cut short because of a hip contusion and lower back stiffness, he last appeared in a game for the Cyclones on July 22nd.

In other transaction news, Baseball America reported today that the Mets released 2013 draft pick RHP Brent McMinn. In two seasons with the GCL Mets, McMinn pitched in 12 games with an ERA of 2.13, striking out 11 in 12.2 innings.
