Colombia beat Panama 6-3 last night at Rod Carew Stadium in Panama to put them one win away from getting a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Dilson Herrera gave Colombia a 1-0 lead with his RBI single in the third inning and they would hold the lead throughout their second win of the tournament. Herrera finished the game going 2 for 5 with the run batted in and scored a run. He batted and played second for the second straight game. He is now 2 for 7 with three walks, two RBI, and two runs scored in the qualifier. Here you can watch the RBI single.

Former Met Rhiner Cruz threw a scoreless inning for Panama and was very impressive, hitting 97 MPH with his fastball.

Earlier in the day Spain lost to France 5-3 and are the first team eliminated from the Panama bracket. Mets shortstop prospect Luis Guillorme went 1 for 3 with a RBI and two walks. He was charged with a throwing error but was sensational in the field for the second straight day. It is one thing to read scouting reports on his defense and another to get to see just how smooth he is at short. He is definitely the best defensive shortstop in the Mets current system and the best one they have had in awhile.

France will now take on Panama tonight at 9 p.m. in an elimination that also sends the winner to the finals. The winner of that game would then face off against Colombia on Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET and would have to beat them twice to win the qualifier. The game Sunday night will be shown live on MLB Network as well as MLB.tv.

The Mexicali bracket featured two blowouts yesterday with the Czech Republic clobbering Germany 15-3 and Mexico mercied Nicaragua in 7 innings by a 11-0 score. Mets prospect Xorge Carrillo got the start for Mexico behind the plate, he went 0 for 3 and is now 0 for 4 in the qualifier.

Germany is now eliminated while the Czech Republic and Nicaragua will play today for a spot in the finals against the tourney favorite Mexico.
