The New York Mets announced on Thursday that right-handed pitching prospect Dom Hamel will start for them in the Spring Breakout game against the Washington Nationals on Friday at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie. The first pitch for the inaugural game is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. ET.

Hamel, 25, posted a 3.85 ERA, 3.21 FIP, 1.27 WHIP, and struck out 30.4% of the hitters he faced over 124 innings last year in Double-A Binghamton. The former third-round pick excelled down the stretch with 14 innings of shutout ball in September, earning him Pitcher of the Month in the Eastern League. He followed that up with 7 2/3 scoreless innings for Binghamton in the game that clinched them a spot in the championship.

Hamel talked about getting the opportunity to start the game.

In most of my recent Mets prospect rankings, Hamel was ranked No. 13, and MLB Pipeline has him ranked No. 14.

Over at MetsmerizedOnline.com, there will be a game chat for the Spring Breakout game, and within that chat, there will be a free live stream of the game.

Here is the Mets full Spring Breakout roster:

Gilbert, Acuña, Rodriguez, Vargas, Hernandez, and Clifford were all acquired by the Mets during the trade deadline last year. The Mets roster includes 7 of their top 10 prospects, according to my list.

The Nationals roster includes top 100 prospects outfielder Dylan Crews, outfielder James Woods, and infielder Brady House.
