Mets first base prospect Dominic Smith has been named to MLB Pipeline‘s Prospect of the Week team for the week ending July 30th. To be eligible for the team, a player must be among an organization’s top 30 prospects. According to MLB Pipeline, Smith is the Mets second best prospect, and he his the 41st best prospect in all of baseball.
Last week, Smith played six games hitting .500/.538/.917 with six runs, four doubles, two homers, seven RBI, and a stolen base. During this six game stretch, Smith has five multi-hit games. Just as impressive, Smith had an extra base hit in five of six games.
This is part of what was a great month for Smith. During the Month of July, Smith hit .385/.437/.725 with 13 doubles, eight homers, 26 RBI, and a stolen base. This month is part of the reason why this is the second time this month Smith was named to the Prospect of the Week team. It is also a reason why Sandy Alderson recently said he should be called up to the majors soon.
Smith kicked ass and took names at the plate in July. I expect to see him within next week or two. Mets wants to give more reps to Cabs & Walker while keeping Flores bat in lineup and also getting Rosario set in.
