The Salt River Rafters won 5-1 last night over the Mesa Solar Sox behind another great night by Mets first base prospect Dominic Smith. Last night he went 3 for 4 with a walk and a run scored while batting out of the number three hole.
For the season Smith is now 13 for 20 with seven walks, two doubles, homerun, three RBI and six runs scored. He has a .650/.741/.900 slash line with the average, on-base, and OPS leading the Arizona Fall League.
Baseball Prospectus writer Christopher Crawford saw Smith recently in the AFL and said his swing reminded him of Robinson Cano. Smith said during an interview in 2014 that he actually tries to mimic the swing of Cano.
Jeff McNeil got the start at third base going 1 for 4 with a run scored, he is now batting .222/.267/.222 in 18 at bats. Beck Wheeler pitched a scoreless 7th inning allowing a hit and walk while striking out two. He now has three scoreless innings under his belt in the AFL.
So far it seems like smith projects as a john olerud type with the potential for more power.
I have made that same comparison before too because of his strong defense and sweet lefty stroke. That would be absolutely fantastic.
Yeah exactly. I wouldnt mind that in the least bit. Lol
No video from the AFL, huh? Don’t they televise some games?
Yes I think they will have some games televised once the World Series is over. I know they had a few last year. If you go to the article on yesterdays AFL recap you can watch a Smith homerun.
YO MM
i was a kid when the mets played in the polo grounds and lived down the street watching the city building the polo grounds projects. then in jr. high school, in 1969
it was a dream, for me come true. now this year we have a chance to make it a world series hat trick and i wish it for young met heads like you and my 10 year old son.
and also i live in new hampshire a long way from those harlem streets in the shadows of the polo grounds and across the 155th st. bridge from that team in the bronx. i never like to say their name. i wish us all good luck for this hat trick.
The pitching has arrived, but the next year or two, we could be saying the same about the young bats. d’Arnaud is getting established. Conforto could see a mini-star turn in 2016. Herrera will get his chance. But I’m excited to what Nimmo, Smith, Cecchini and Rosario, and to a lesser extent Becerra and Lindsay can do in 2016.
Sandy is genius?
