Dominic Smith tweeted earlier today that it looks like he’ll be reporting to the GCL on Sunday — which was surprising, considering that he had not finalized his deal with the Mets yet. However, sources are reporting that Dominic Smith has passed his physical and should be in the final stages of his agreement with the Mets, which is excellent news.
My take on the situation is the deal is basically set in stone with the ink about ready to dry, because Smith would not have talked about reporting to the GCL Mets otherwise.
The projected contract value for the 11th pick in the draft stands at $2.8 million.
I realize he is only 17 but he is a polished hitter. If they are using Cecchini’s failure vas a reason to start Smith in the GCL rather than Kingsport they are making a mistake.
