The Mets took a 7-1 win on Tuesday against the Marlins in their fourth game of spring training, bringing their record to 3-1 so far. Here are some stat lines for the prospects who played in the game.

Hitters

Alex Ramirez continues his strong spring, hitting an opposite-field two-RBI double, as well as an outfield assist. The Mets contingent seems like they want to see what the prospect has to offer after placing him on the 40-man roster this offseason. Drew Gilbert showed with his hustle that he could possibly be an option as early as this season. Luisangel Acuña had a walk and an error in the field at second base.

Jeremiah Jackson scored a run as a pinch-runner, then remained in the game at shortstop. JT Schwartz ended the game with an unassisted double play.

Pitchers

Nate Lavender had another good outing, showing the Mets they may have some depth in Syracuse. Dedniel Núñez made his spring debut, displaying the big fastball (fastest pitch in the game at 98.2 mph) and a solid slider that has kept him on the back end of Mets prospect lists – the only thing that has been plaguing him is his control. Daniel Juarez noticed a big uptick in velocity, averaging 91 MPH last season, and in Tuesday’s outing, he averaged 93 MPH and topped out at 94 MPH.

Quotes

Anthony Dicomo of MLB.com had a few interesting quotes from prospect Drew Gilbert, including:

People describe you as playing “with your hair on fire.” What does that mean to you?

“I try to be who I am. I try to be genuine. That just happens to be who I am. I love playing. I love playing with my teammates, and I love winning. I think that’s kind of where that comes from: a drive to win. I don’t really know why else you would play the game. That’s just who I am and hopefully will always be. Obviously, you’re always trying to make adjustments, and I’m not perfect. I’ve definitely let my emotions get the best of me at times. You just learn to harness that and try to win along the way.”

What are your goals for this season?

“Obviously, there are statistical goals, and everyone wants to move up. But for me, if I want to take care of those things, I think the biggest thing is trying to maximize each day for what it’s worth. If you stack days on top of each other, you wind up making a lot of progress — whether it’s performance or taking care of your body or whatnot. That’s a big goal for me, just being where my feet are and attacking each day.”
