The 2020 Eastern League All-Star game, which had previously been announced to take place in Binghamton, has been cancelled, per a report from Nicole Menner of WBNG 12 News.

This news, of course, does not come as a huge shocker given the COVID-19 pandemic and all the shutdowns and cancellations that have come with it. At this point, there is going to be a dramatically shortened season if there even is a season at all, so the cancellation of the All-Star game is an unfortunately necessary precaution.

“This is a very unfortunate casualty of the COVID-19 virus,” said Binghamton Rumble Ponies owner John Hughes. “I know how much went into this from our community. The fans, the elected officials, and the team went all in to put our best foot forward. We are now shifting our focus to providing an incredibly action packed schedule into a condensed season. I remain committed to providing a safe and memorable experience for this community and look forward to our 2020 Opening Day.”

This comes as especially disappointing news given that the Rumble Ponies were set to host the All-Star game, and they now won’t get the chance to do that, at least not this year.

The Rumble Ponies also announced that fans who already bought tickets to the game can exchange them for two regular season tickets.

These are certainly hectic and unfortunate times, but efforts are being made to still have some sort of baseball season this year while ensuring the health and safety of everybody.
