Eudor Garcia

Eudor Garcia will return to the field today in the Mets organization after his 80 game suspension in the offseason. The third baseman was tested positive for Bumetanine and Furosemide, both of which can be used to mask drugs or steroids by helping to dilute the content of the user’s urine.

Garcia was the Mets fourth round pick in the 2014 draft. He attended El Paso Community College before signing with the Mets organization. Garcia started his pro career with the Mets in Kingsport. In 55 games, he hit .262/.327/.347 with two homers and 28 runs batted in to go with nine doubles and a triple.

In his first full season in 2015, Garcia showed a lot of power. With the Savannah Sand Gnats he hit .285/.336/.410 with nine homeruns and 58 runs batted in. He played 105 games collecting 23 doubles and four triples. We ranked Garcia as our number 22 prospect before the season. Our own Teddy Klein had this to say about Garcia:

Despite having a PED suspension smacked on him on January 19th for bumetanide and furosemide that will keep him out for the first 80 games of the season, we have him in our top 25 without worry or any negative disposition towards his use. Garcia, with or without Performance Enhancing Drugs is a talented hitter, who hit one out of right field at Historic Grayson, the hardest park to homer in the minor leagues. With plus bat speed and the ability to hit for average and power with his quick left stroke, he has the upside to hit .280 with 20 home runs, should he reach that potential. One thing that he should work on, however, is cutting down on strikeouts.

On the other side of his game, he has a lot to work on if he wants to stay a 3rd baseman. With a below-average arm, and 30-grade speed, he is not very agile, and his hands aren’t too soft either for the hot corner. There could be a possibility that he moves to first base, or maybe left field. Either way, his bat will play anywhere.

Garcia is playing third base for the GCL Mets today.
