The Salt River Rafters improved their record to 14-11 with a 5-3 victory over the Surprise Saguaros last night. They are now two games behind the Scottsdale Scorpions for first place in the East division.

Jeff McNeil got his first professional start in left field last night, he had previously played just 12 minor league innings in the outfield (all in center). McNeil who is turning into a super utility guy has played four games at second, five at shortstop, and five at third in the Arizona Fall League.

McNeil was 0 for 5 at the plate out of the leadoff spot but apparently made an incredible catch in left field. Here is what AFL photographer Bill Mitchell said on twitter (@billazbbphotog) “Jeff McNeil makes AFL catch of the year in LF, robbing Jurickson Profar of a HR”. He is now hitting .244/.333/.264 with four stolen bases in 53 at bats.

L.J. Mazzilli got the start at second base going 2 for 4 with a double and a run batted in. He is 4 for 27 with two doubles, three RBI, and a stolen base this fall.

Lefty reliever Kyle Regnault pitched a perfect 7th inning with a strikeout to pick up his third hold of the fall season. He has given up only one run in seven innings and has tallied ten strikeouts in that span.

You can watch the Rafters on MLB Network and MLB.tv tonight at 8 PM ET with Mets minor league knuckleballer Mickey Jannis getting the start.
