In their first game playing in Double A, Brandon Nimmo, T.J. Rivera and Dilson Herrera, each had a hand in helping the B-Mets to a 6-0 victory over Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Nimmo, batting in the fifth hole and playing centerfield, went 0 for 2, but continued to add to his knack of getting on base, with two walks and a run scored.
Rivera, batting seventh and playing shortstop, was 1 for 3, with a walk and a run scored and Herrera, batting eighth and playing second base, was 2 for 4, with a runs scored.

Adam Rubin of ESPN is reporting that the Mets promoted infielder Matt Reynolds to Triple-A Las Vegas, making that six moves in under 24 hours. Reynolds was batting .355 wtih a home run and 21 RBI in Double-A Binghamton. The flurry of moves can only be seen as positive as the Mets minor league players are all one more step closer to making an impact with the big club in the future.

It is being reported by Adam Rubin of ESPN, that five St. Lucie Mets are being promoted to Double-A Binghamton. The Mets were eliminated from claiming a postseason birth at the conclusion of the first half of the season, prompting the organization to make the move.
Heading to Binghamton are Brandon Nimmo, Steven Matz, Dilson Herrera, T.J. Rivera, and Randy Fontanez.
Each player had a hand in St. Lucie’s success in the first half of the season.
Nimmo was batting .322 but had a robust on base percentage of .448 which led the Florida State League. Rivera was second in the league in batting average finishing the first half at .341, and had 47 RBI which was four fewer than his entire offensive output in 2013. Herrera was no slouch batting .307 with three home runs and 23 RBI.
Matz was 4-4 with an ERA of 2.21 in 12 starts this season. He had 62 strikeouts and 66 hits in 69.1 innings pitched. Fontanez recorded 10 saves for St. Lucie and had an ERA of 2.56.
I am fairly certain promotions will be the best things about the Mets in 2014. Congrats to this first five of Nimmo, Herrera, Matz, Rivera, and Fontanez. Two steps closer to the show.
Leathersich, Reynolds to Vegas soon?
Why has Rivera been mired in Single A all this time? It seemed like his 2012 splits between Low and High A would have had him starting ’13 in AA in his age 24 season and then AAA this year in his age 25 season.
Nimmo, Matz, and Herrera are the headliners here. AA is a big jump, IMO. This is where you start to see if the “top prospect” labels are more likely to pan out.
My guesses:
The catcher position is gonna be held up until they promote TdA. Plawecki should get promoted to AAA after TdA gets brought back to Queens. That would likely see Teagarden sent back to AAA and probably Gronauer back to AA. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Maron moved up to AA, either. He’s repeating A+ and has been hitting well this time around.
With Nimmo getting bumped to AA, I would guess that either Johnson or Burgamy get moved to AAA, possibly both if Puello gets kicked back to AA.
I would also guess that Reynolds is likely about to get moved to AAA. Bingy is going to have far too many IFers with both Herrera and Rivera going there.
Tovar and Reynolds to AAA next? Maybe OmarQ gets released from AAA?
Better go watch Plawecki, he’ll be gone to Triple A soon.
Hopefully this happens when Tovar is back
Herrera is absolutely flying through the system. The Pirates pactically ave up hm and Black. The Dickey trade is the gift that keeps on giving(yes D’arnaud will be fine)
I’ve read some scouting reports on the net on Reynolds. With all the question marks at SS does this promotion now make him a valid person to throw into that mix? I’ve read defensively he may be best off at 2B? And as far as his bat, am I correct to assume that at best he’s a contact hitter with little to no power? Any speed?
Looking for someone to get excited about as we head into what could be a long summer for this team.
Reynolds is a solid defensive middle infielder at second and at short. In his last game in Binghamton he made two sparkling defensive plays that had B-Met fans cheering wildly. Reynolds lacks the range and flair of a Wilfredo Tovar but he has great hands and is consistent and dependable covering shortstop.
Tovar is out for an extended period of time with a thumb injury. The last time I was in Binghamton, Tuesday, Tovar was in an arm cast. I think the cast up his arm is to hold everything in place and make sure the thumb stays immobile. He hurt the thumb diving into second base, and I’m pretty certain he had surgery. Tovar’s injury had moved Reynolds to shortstop and opened space for Ryan Sandoval to play second. With Reynolds now gone it looks like Rivera will get the time at shortstop. They will probably use Herrera primarily at second and Sandoval as an infield utility guy. If he keeps hitting Brian Burgamy will play a lot of third pushing Dustin Lawley to a more permanent left field. Lawley is absolutely locked in right now at the plate, 9-20, over the recent 6 game home stand.
Reynolds is already there, pitch hit last night and fanned. Plawecki will follow shortly after d’Arnaud gets a call up. At least that’s my guess.
