With Jacob deGrom going to the Injured List with a yet to be disclosed elbow injuries, the Mets have announced Syracuse pitcher Chris Flexen will be promoted and will start in deGrom’s place on Saturday.

In two starts for Syracuse this year, Flexen is 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA, 1.167 WHIP, and a 13.5 K/9. Aside from the big strikeout numbers, it should also be noted Flexen has walked just three batters in his 12 innings pitched.

When Flexen takes the mound on Saturday, it will be his 10th Major League start. In those 10 starts, he has an 8.26 ERA. It should be noted that was largely the result of two poor starts in 2017.

This past offseason, Flexen had knee surgery and got into much better shape. So far with Syracuse, it led to better control than he’s previously shown. It will be interesting to see if he has similarly improved results in his start on Saturday.
