The Binghamtom Rumble Ponies not only have two of the New York Mets prospects in Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty, but they also had two of the best power hitters in the system. It didn’t take long for us to see it on display.

In the top of the first, Baty went opposite field against Hartford Yard Goats starter Mitchell Kilkenny.

As impressive as that homer might’ve been, it wasn’t the showstopper Alvarez’s was. In the fourth, Alavarez hit a mammoth three run homer off Kilkenny extending the Rumble Ponies lead to 6-0.

These homers were part of a big day at the plate for both Alvarez and Baty as the Rumble Ponies beat up on the Yard Goats by the tune of an 8-2 score.

Baty was 2-for-5 with a double, homer, and an RBI. In some ways, the extra base hits weren’t the big news for Baty.

Heading into the season, Baty needed to improve upon a 55.1% groundball rate. We saw signs of significant improvement on that front with Baty hitting the ball in the air in all five at-bats. That includes not just the extra base hits but also some line drives.

As good as Baty was, Alvarez was better. He finished his night going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI.

He was also behind the plate as Binghamton starters combined to allow just two earned on five hits and five walks while striking out 15.

It should also be noted while he did not homer, Ronny Mauricio had a very good day at the plate. He was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

However, it was a bit of a mixed bag for Mauricio. He would strike out twice, and he was caught stealing.

All told, this was the type of start we Esther to see from the Rumble Ponies. Their top prospects were hitting the ball very hard, and they were putting runs up on the board.
