Right-hander Garrison Bryant was arguably the best pitcher in the New York-Penn League during the regular season and he continued that trend on Sunday night when he threw six scoreless innings in game one of the NYPL finals.

The Cyclones took game one from the Lowell Spinners 2-1 in Massachusetts behind a pitching staff that allowed only two hits.

Bryant, Mets’ 2016 36th rounder, allowed only one hit and three walks while striking out one in his six innings of work. Right-hander Jared Biddy followed with two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Cyclones reliever Reyson Santos came into the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead and runners on first and second with two outs. Santos allowed an RBI single before getting a ground ball out to close out the big one.

The game was tied 0-0 in the top of the eighth before Mets 2019 first rounder Brett Baty singled to start the rally. Jose Peroza got the Cyclones on the board with a sac fly that also moved a runner over to third. Antoine Duplantis followed with a sac fly of his own to make it 2-0 Cyclones.

Baty had two hits in the game and second baseman Luke Ritter went 2-for-3 with a walk. Outfielder Ranfy Adon went 1-for-3 with a double and run scored, he’s now 6-for-13 with a walk in the playoffs.

The Cyclones host the Spinners on Monday night at MCU Park with a chance to claim the New York-Penn League title. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. with right-hander Frank Valentino getting the start for Brooklyn.
