Gavin Cecchini Torrid Hitting Helps Sand Gnats Win 5th Straight

The Sand Gnats banged out 13 hits (five were doubles) and cruised to a 12-2 win over the Braves.

In the first inning, Savannah sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs. Hot hitting shortstop Gavin Cecchini led off with a double, then second baseman L.J. Mazzilli reached first base on a force out, and left fielder Jared King walked to load the bases. A double by Stefan Sabol, who was batting DH, scored 2 runs.  Then a wild pitch allowed King to score.

Savannah scored one run in the 2nd inning, three runs in the third, four runs in the fourth and their final run in the 6th inning.

Rome scored their only two runs in the first and sixth innings.

Savannah Top Performers:

Cecchini was 3-for-6 with a double, two singles, two runs scored and two RBI’s.

Catcher Jeff Glenn was 3-for-4 with three singles, one RBI, and two runs scored and is now batting .310.

Savannah starter, John Michael Gant, pitched five innings, allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out five. With the win Gant is now (3-1).

Savannah has won five games in a row and play game three of the series Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium, with first pitch at 2:05 PM ET.
