Notes
Wins and losses go by the boards in the GCL, so you may not get that many full game recaps from me when it comes to that area. That being said, I’ll make sure to update you on any notable occurrences.
For example, our first-rounder Dominic Smith made his professional debut today and went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ivan Wilson also started today in the outfield with Vicente Lupo, in perhaps a glimpse of the future. Lupo rebounded from his tough season opener with two hits and a walk today, while Wilson stole his first base.
Wilson was on the wrong end of a triple play early in the game, however, where supposedly all players were tagged out. Yeesh.
Tim Byrdak made an appearance in rehab today — in fact, he actually started the game with a scoreless inning. Marcos Molina took over after, allowing two earned over 4.2 IP and striking out nine. Gaby Almonte was the hard-luck loser, after he allowed an unearned run over three innings.
Key Stats
Leon Canelon: 2-for-3, 1 R
Vicente Lupo: 2-for-3, 1 BB, 1 R
Dominic Smith: 2-for-4, 1 RBI
Ivan Wilson: 0-for-3, 1 BB, 1 SB
Tim Byrdak: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 ER, 1 K
Marcos Molina: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 9 K
Gaby Almonte: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 K

Note to self: Keep tabs on Molina.
Yup Molina was a 6-figure signing early last year and supposedly fits the ” plus makeup & coachability” profile the Mets have seemingly been targeting with their early round draft picks and higher profile IFA in recent years.
From his scouting reports from last year, his fastball was already 88-92 mph, with potential for more to go with a promising changeup. Molina should spend this summer with the GCL Mets and then could be in line for Brooklyn in 2014 and then Savannah at age 19/20 in 2015 if all goes well.
