Grant Hartwig Struggles In Blowout Loss

It was an ugly afternoon for the Javelinas on Saturday, as they were defeated by Rafters 15-4. Box Score

Two Mets prospects appeared in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game:

Neither prospect did much to move the needle during the game. Ritter scored the Javelinas’ first run after drawing a walk in the second inning and would draw another walk in the fourth inning, but that was the extent of the offense for the duo. Ritter also made an error in the eighth inning that later led to a run-scoring, but the game was already well out of reach by that point.

Kendall has recently been in a slump, but his ten walks still rank within the top-15 in the Arizona Fall League and lead the Javelinas.

Two Mets pitching prospects also appeared in Saturday’s game:

  • RHP Grant Hartwig (10.00 ERA) 0.2 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, BB
  • LHP Josh Walker (3.38 ERA) 1.0 IP, 2 H, R, BB, 3 K
  • RHP Franklin Sanchez (11.81 ERA) 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

This was pretty easily the worst appearance of Hartwig’s professional career. After allowing just 11 runs and one home run over the course of the 2022 season (56 2/3 innings pitched), he gave up over half the earned runs and doubled the homers in less than an inning of work on Saturday. By the time he exited the game, the score was an insurmountable 13-2. Walker worked around four baserunners and only gave up one unearned run in his inning of work. He has struck out ten batters over 8.0 innings so far in the Arizona Fall League.

The Javelinas will look for better results when they return to action against the Devil Dogs on Tuesday at 3:35 PM ET.
