According to MMN‘s Jacob Resnick, Brooklyn Cyclones pitcher Gunnar Kines has suffered a broken ankle and is out for the season.

Kines has not pitched since July 28th when he pitched 3.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

In that game, Kines called for and caught a pop-up in front of the mound. On that play, Cyclones shortstop Leon Byrd had come charging in, and he slid to try to avoid Kines. Unfortunately, Byrd collided with Kines. As we now know, he broke Kines’ ankle.

On the season, Kines was 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA, 1.000 WHIP, and an 8.7 K/9. He was named the New York Penn League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 22nd.
