As first reported by MMN‘s Mathew Brownstein, Mets right-handed pitching prospect Jordan Humphreys had offseason surgery to move his ulnar nerve in February. With Humphreys rehabbing from this surgery, he is expected to start the season on the Injured List, and he is expected to make his season debut in June.

If Humphreys does return in June, it will be the first time he pitches in a professional game in almost two years. His 2017 season was cut short as he needed Tommy John surgery. The injury had cut short a breakout season for Humphreys. In 11 starts for Columbia, he was 10-1 with a 1.55 ERA, 0.718 WHIP, 1.2 BB/9, and a 10.3 K/9.

Even with the surgeries, Humphreys is regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in the Mets organization. For example, MMN has ranked him 17, and MLB Pipeline ranked him 11. The reason is because he’s a 22 year old four pitch pitcher who still has room to develop and build off of a terrific 2017 season.
