Just last week, the Mets revealed the unfortunate news that top pitching prospect Matthew Allan needed Tommy John surgery and will miss all of 2021 and a likely a significant portion of 2022.

The injury bug has hit the Mets minors this week as well, right-handed pitching prospect Harol González had Tommy John surgery last week as well. González, 26, has been in the Mets farm system since 2014 and pitched well in 2019 (3.01 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A).

Mets 2020 first round Pete Crow-Armstrong landed on the injured list on Thursday after jamming his right (non-throwing) shoulder sliding into a base the previous night. The center fielder was hitting .417/.563/.500 through his first six pro games.

Mets fans got a scare on Thursday night when it was reported that top prospect Francisco Álvarez left Game 1 of the St. Lucie Mets doubleheader last night following a collision at the plate.

Thankfully, I was told the initial prognosis for the Mets’ 19-year-old catcher was minor multiple bruises. Álvarez, given a franchise record $2.7 million international signing bonus, did a very cool thing on Thursday when he bought the entire St. Lucie Mets team lunch at Chick-fil-A.
