Jacob deGrom came into Thursday’s game against the Chicago Cubs looking for his first major league victory. In his first four starts prior to facing the Cubs, he was 0-2, with a 2.42 ERA, 25 strikeouts in 26 innings while allowing seven earned runs, giving up four home runs and walking 12.

On Thursday night the Cubs would get to deGrom early as they scored three runs in the bottom of the second on a sac fly and two run home run. In the 4th, the Cubs added another run against deGrom to go up 4-0. He was removed after just five innings, but would not suffer the loss as Andrew Brown homered in the 7th to tie the game at 4-4.

DeGrom is still looking for that elusive first victory, and even though he has yet to accomplish it, he has pitched well enough to at least deserve it. His final line on Thursday, 5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 HR.

On a side note, deGrom hit a ground-rule double on a line drive to left center field to improve his batting average to .556 (5 for 9) on the season.
