The New York Mets have announced they have placed RHP Zack Wheeler on the 10 day injured list, and the team has recalled RHP Jacob Rhame to take his place on the roster. As noted by MMN‘s Jacob Resnick, Rhame has a two game suspension pending stemming from his throwing up-and-in to Rhys Hoskins in the Mets April 24 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. That appeal is still under appeal, and Rhame can pitch until the appeal is adjudicated by Major League Baseball.

After the game, Rhame was optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse. After just two appearances for Syracuse, he would land on the injured list, and he would be activated on June 20. After one rehab appearance in St. Lucie, he was reassigned to Syracuse on June 24.

In the eight appearances for Syracuse since being activated off the injured list, Rhame is 2-0 with a 2.00 ERA, 0.889 WHIP, and a 9.0 K/9. Impressively, he has walked just one batter while striking out nine in nine innings pitched. This is partially a result of him throwing strikes 68 percent of the time.

With the Mets possibly needing to a fifth starter prior to the end of Wheeler’s IL stint, it will be interesting to see how long Rhame remains on the roster.
