In the Binghamton Rumble Ponies’ 4-3 win over New Hampshire last night, three of the four runs plated were the result of solo home runs. Two of those homers belonged to Jeff McNeil.
He’s 3 for 14 this season with all three hits being long balls and has played four of his games at third base. Though he has experience at first base, second base, shortstop and all three outfield spots as well.
Believe it or not, with those two homers last night, McNeil is only one off his career high in homers in just four games played this season. He’s 3 for 14 this season with all three hits being long balls. One of the main reasons why that is the case is the very promising and versatile McNeil has had his career interrupted by injuries on multiple occasions.
In 2015, he had surgery to repair a sports hernia. After that, it was discovered he had a torn labrum in his hip. Even this season, McNeil found himself on the seven day disabled list after playing just one game.
Now, after a myriad of injuries which have limited him to just 51 games over the past two seasons, McNeil is healthy and ready to contribute. More than that, he’s ready to show everyone just how talented a prospect he is.
The two home runs yesterday could very well be the start of McNeil getting his career back on track. It serve as a springboard towards him making a case to be called up to either Triple-A. Really, with McNeil finally healthy, he’s ready to hit. More than that, he’s ready to impress again.
