Jeff Walters

The Mets announced earlier today that Jeff Walters has joined the list of players to be optioned to minor league camp.

Walters, 26, saved a record 38 games last season for Binghamton (AA) and was 4-3, with a 2.09 ERA, and 60 strikeouts in 56 innings, and he will enter his 5th season in the Mets organization.

Walters was pitching very well in the spring, with a 2.45 ERA in four Grapefruit League games and if it wasn’t for the signings of Jose Valverde, Kyle Farnsworth, and John Lannan, the hard throwing right hander may have found himself heading north with the club.

Good things are in store for Walters and the rest of the Mets top pitching prospects, and they showed this spring that the organization has some great young arms that will most definitely make an impact to the big league pitching staff sometime this summer.
