The New York Mets signed outfielder Jeffry Rosa for $100,000 during the 2022 International Signing Period. In 2022, the New York Mets had a budget of $5,179,700 dedicated towards international signings – and ultimately signed 21 players. On the end of that 21 player list filtered high to low based on signing bonus was Jeffry Rosa, a 6’1, 180 pound 17 year old from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

After inking his first professional contract, Rosa was assigned to the DSL Mets 2, one of the Mets two Dominican Summer League teams. The young outfielder spent the entirety of the 2022 season with the DSL Mets 2, and did not perform in the way that he had hoped. In 33 games, Rosa hit .216/.315/.371 with 6 doubles and 3 home runs while striking out 48 percent of the time.

With the 2022 season as a chip on his shoulder, Rosa would the enter the offseason and 2023 hungry to turn his young career around. During the offseason, Rosa trained daily, making tweaks and working to improve his swing. I spoke with Rosa about his production, and he said,  “many improvements were made between this season and last season.” Rosa, who turned 18 in September of 2o22, put these improvements on display during the 2023 season.

It is safe to say that Jeffry Rosa’s offseason work has shown, as the outfielder led the 2023 Dominican Summer League in many hitting statistics. In 2023, Rosa played 44 games for the DSL Mets Orange and slashed .277/.400/.669 with 15 home runs and 13 doubles. Rosa’s 15 home runs led the 2023 Dominican Summer League – three more than second place Kelvin Hldalgo of the Colorado Rockies. Rosa, nicknamed “El Oso” or “The Bear,” also led the 2023 DSL in slugging percentage (.669) and came in third in OPS (1.069).

Looking forward to the 2024 season, Rosa says he is excited to play in the United States, where he will presumably join the Mets’ Florida Complex League team. Keep an eye out for Jeffry Rosa as his breakout campaign could land him a spot on the Mets’ Organizational Top 30 Prospects List entering the 2024 season.
