With the exciting news reported on Tuesday, the Mets were hiring David Stearns as their new president of baseball operations. The New York Mets’ top prospects had big nights for playoff-bound Binghamton.

The Rumble Ponies lineup features three first-round picks from the 2022 draft as Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, and Kevin Parada went a combined 6-for-11, with three doubles, two RBIs, a walk, and five runs scored. Williams was making his Double-A debut last night for Binghamton. The 19-year-old was promoted on Monday after playing 36 games for High-A Brooklyn. Williams batted second and played shortstop.

They will begin the Eastern League playoffs at home next Tuesday, September 19, against the Somerset Patriots.

The top of the lineup got the party started for Binghamton in the bottom of the first inning. Jett Williams reached base after being hit by a pitch in his first Double-A plate appearance. Drew Gilbert followed with a walk, and Kevin Parada ripped an RBI double over the right fielder to drive in Williams.

Williams had a fantastic debut for Binghamton, as he was on base three times and scored three runs in the contest. He singled in the third inning to record his first Double-A base hit. The 19-year-old slashed .299/.451/.567 with a 1.018 in 162 plate appearances for High-A Brooklyn.

Parada went 2-for-5 with a double and notched his eleventh RBI in 11 games for the Ponies. The 22-year-old backstop is on a four-game hit streak. He is 7-for-19 with four extra-base hits and six RBIs during that span.

Infielder Luis Guillorme, returning from an injury, made a rehab start with Binghamton playing third base. He went 0-for-4 with a walk out of the lead-off spot.

Right-hander Tidwell was terrific as he carved up the Fightin Phils lineup. The 22-year-old hurled five scoreless frames, yielding just three hits. The 6-foot-4 righty ended his outing by striking out the side in the fifth. Tidwell tallied nine punchouts and did not issue a walk. He generated 14 swinging strikes on 83 pitches. Tidwell is 11-6 with a 3.42 ERA and 152/61 K/BB ratio in 115 2/3 innings (24 starts) across two levels this season.

David Griffin fanned three batters across three innings of work out of the pen. The 27-year-old right-hander threw 34 pitches (28 strikes) during the outing.

Right-hander Daison Acosta fired a flawless ninth inning, striking out two of the three batters to close out Binghamton’s 8-1 win. The 25-year-old has tossed five consecutive scoreless outings, lowering his ERA to 4.89. Acosta was tremendous in August, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.45 ERA, 0.95 WHIP with 16 punchouts, and five walks across 14 2/3 innings.
