Thursday was bittersweet for New York Mets fans as Jett Williams left the Scottsdale Scorpions regular-season finale, and Drew Gilbert and Jacob Reimer played key roles in clinching a playoff game.
The Scorpions entered the regular finale on a six-game winning streak and needed a win against the Glendale Desert Dogs to qualify for the Friday playoff game. It was a tough first inning for Scottsdale and Jett Williams. The Mets prospect was hit by a pitch in the top of the first inning and then left the game in the bottom of the inning after hitting the wall. Williams was trying to make a play on the ball in center field and hit the wall. He stayed down for a little bit before being helped off the field by the trainer. One batter later, Matt McLain singled to give the Desert Dogs a 1-0 lead.
After the game, it was reported Williams was dealing with a right ankle sprain. He was walking with a noticeable limp, though it sounded like he had avoided a major injury. The up-the-middle prospect will finish his AFL season with a .764 OPS in 22 games.

Reimer extended the Scorpions’ lead to 6-3 in the seventh inning with a pinch-hit home run, his second in AFL action.
On the pitching side, only one of the Mets’ prospects got into the game.
- RHP Jawilme Ramirez: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
Ramirez was saddled with a blown save but also earned the win, his second of the season.
The Scorpions play the Salt River Rafters on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET. If they win that game, they will play in the championship on Saturday against the No. 1-seeded Surprise Saguaros.
