Jett Williams and Drew Gilbert were back in action for the Scottsdale Scorpions Wednesday night against the Mesa Solar Sox. While 8 of the 9 players in The Scorpions starting lineup recorded a hit, the team recorded five errors in what ended up being a 19-3 loss.
Williams recorded a two-out triple to center in the bottom of the sixth, however, he ended up being stranded at third when Bryce Eldridge struck out to end the inning. The shortstop went 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts and had a inconsequential fielding error in the fourth.
Gilbert was the lone Scorpions player to not record a hit on Wednesday. He lined into an unassisted double play in the first, flew out to right in the fourth, flew out to center in the seventh, and struck out in the ninth.
As for Mets pitchers, the only one to appear in the loss was Dylan Ross. The 13th Round pick in 2022 got the ball for the seventh inning, but it was a rough one. The right-hander allowed five runs on four hits, and struck out a couple of batters. The inning ended up culminating with a two-run home run by Jonathon Long.
On a non-Mets prospect note, the Solar Sox were able to get a lot of production from the top of their lineup. The trio of Tre’ Morgan, Jonathon Long, and Moises Ballesteros combined to go 9-for-18 with eight runs scored, a home run, and nine RBIs in the victory.
Scottsdale did have a 2-1 lead after the first following Gilbert lining into a double double play. Unfortunately, that lead would end up being short-lived when Mesa scored eight runs in the third and sent 12 total batters to the plate.
The Scorpions will be back in action on Thursday afternoon when they take on the Surprise Saguaros (0-2) at Scottsdale Stadium. The game time will be 4:30 p.m ET.
