24-year-old righty-handed pitcher Joander Suarez was awarded the Eastern League Pitcher Of The Week after a terrific outing on Thursday night.
The young prospect hurled 6 1/3 perfect innings, while also striking out 7. Suarez threw a ton of strikes, as 54 out of the 74 pitches thrown were in his favor (73% rate.).
Suarez has been off to a solid start in Double-A, posting a 2.60 ERA and a 3.36 FIP. He is certainly building off his breakout year last season, during which he struck out 137 batters across 108.1 innings with High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton. However, his highlight reel moment came in September when he pitched the 8th no-hitter (4th individual) in franchise history against the Hartford Yard Goats.
Suarez has gone under the radar as a prospect and is someone to keep an eye this season and for the future.
